Shared
User Personal Pages
Shared Personal Page Hosting
Hawk can provide you or your company with a shared web site that will meet a variety of
needs. If you do not want to take on the expense of having a Dedicated Virtual Domain
Hosted site, you can purchase shared web site service form Hawk.
*Shared personal page service is available
only to current Hawk customers.
What is a "Shared Personal Page
Hosting"?- Shared personal page hosting is non Dedicated Virtual Domain
Hosting- that is, web hosting off of the Hawk Internet web site. For example, if you are a
Hawk user with the username "gonzo", your shared web site with Hawk would
be www.hawkpci.net/gonzo . This is what we call a Hawk Personal
Page. This service is offered free to all dial
up users for non-business purposes.

Introduction to Web Documents
Documents on the World Wide Web (WWW) are written in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).
Programs called browsers, such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer, are
designed to interpret this language and display the pages.
WWW documents must be placed onto a server, along with any
image files that are to be displayed with the document. Anyone with access to the WWW can
access the documents that you put onto the server.
You can familiarize yourself with several basic hosting terms at our Hosting
Details Glossary.
HTML Editors
There are a number of programs that allow you to create web pages with HTML. Which program
you choose depends on the degree to which you want to develop your pages.
WYSIWYG Editors
You will likely start out using a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editor. An
example of a WYSIWYG editor for documents is Microsoft Word, in which you use built in
formatting functions to make the document look exactly how you want it to look. Available
WYSIWYG editors include Netscape Gold and Microsoft Internet Assistant for Microsoft Word.
Users of Microsoft Word can download the "Word Internet
Assistant" from Microsoft for no charge. This program allows you to convert your
Microsoft Word files into HTML documents. That way, you can use Word to create your files!
If you have Office 97, this functionality is already included (consult the Word help file
for instructions). Otherwise, you can find the Internet Assistant at Microsoft's Web Site.
HTML Editors
You can use a simple text editor, such as WordPad or NotePad, to write HTML pages.
However, there are some text editors that have tools that are useful when writing HTML
pages. Other HTML editors are
