Auto responders
Auto responders reply to incoming e-mail messages automatically. An
auto responder could
be used to send "more information" to persons that send e-mail to a specific
address, such as info@whateveryouwant.com. If you have ever sent an e-mail and had an
automatic reply to your e-mail (within 5 minutes), you probably received a message
automatically generated by an auto responder.
Bandwidth (Data Transfer)
Bandwidth is the amount of data transmitted across
a network path. The allotted space
allows for a completely comprehensive website, including graphics, forms and plenty of
content. When anyone accesses a users website, the transfer of data (HTML files,
images, sound files, etc.) is involved.
Domain Name
Registration
Hawk Internet offers virtual domain hosting accounts which means you can have your own
website address or "domain name" (example: yourname.com). We can handle U.S.
domain name registration or transfers on your behalf. (ie: .com, .net, .org). The InterNIC
charges $70 to register a domain name which covers the first two years. They currently
bill at a rate of $35 per year thereafter. You can also have additional domain names
point to your account at no additional charge for up to 3 domain names.
E-Mail Forwarding
Once your domain name is active worldwide, you can receive all e-mail addressed to your
domain such as webmaster@yourname.com, sales@yourname.com, etc. By default, all e-mail
addressed to your domain will forward to your real e-mail address (POP3 account) which is
your username. For convenience, specific mail forwarding options are available if
you need specific addresses each to be forwarded to different addresses on the Internet.
For example, e-mail addressed to webmaster@yourname.com could forward to an account on
Hotmail, but sales@yourname.com could forward to an email account at your office.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Access
You will have unlimited access to your account via File Transfer Protocol 24-hours a day
to setup and maintain your web site. You can work on HTML documents, graphics, and scripts
locally and then upload files to your web site when ready.
Hawk also supports anonymous FTP for virtual domain name hosted sites. Anonymous FTP allows visitors to FTP into your account and download files without a login or password. You can create a message file that will display your message when someone uses an FTP software program to access your FTP site. Hawk can not be held responsible for the security or accuracy of the files in your directory if you allow anonymous FTP on your website.
Java/ASP/CFM/CGI Scripts
Hawk servers support multiple scripting technologies, including Java, Java Script, Active
Server Pages, and Cold Fusion. All customers have access to a directory in which approved
scripts are installed. CGI scripts are often used to accomplish tasks which are not
supported by HTML such as a hit counter or guest book.
Microsoft® FrontPage®
&2000
We can install FrontPage extensions on your account. This allows you to use the
easy-to-use Microsoft FrontPage program to create and maintain your web site. You may
request that FrontPage extensions be installed within your web site when placing an order
for domain web hosting services or contact our technical support directly. We
support the technology for hosting theses sites, but do not provide FrontPage technical
support. Microsoft provides
direct support for all FrontPage users.

Pointing
Multiple domain name pointing is having several virtual domains point to the same IP
address. An example is that Hawk Internet owns the domains http://www.pcimarketing.com and
http://www.pcimktg.com, both of which take you to the same website. Keep in mind that the
InterNIC will bill you $70 for the first two years for each domain name you register.
POP3 E-mail Accounts
In addition to mail forwarding, users have the option to retrieve e-mail directly from
POP3 mailboxes on the mail server using an email program such as Outlook Express. Each of
our plans includes 15 individual POP3 accounts which all have a unique login and password.
Clients of Hawk Internet can configure their POP3 accounts from their local pc. Multiple
POP3 accounts work well if you need e-mail addresses for several people within your
organization.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) allows users to collect data such as credit card information in
a secure environment. Our secure server is runs on Windows NT with 128 bit encryption.
Information submitted via a secure form is sent to the server in an encrypted mode. Users
may choose to research methods such as encrypted email (PGP), CyberCash, or other solution
for retrieving such information from their web sites. The internet is full of shady
characters and your customers know it. They won't trust anything that does not appear
secure with their credit card numbers. SSL certificates are available from
certificate authorities (CA's) such as Verisign at www.verisign.com.
Statistics
Since not every person who visits your page is going to send an email to tell you what
their experience was with your site you need to be able to monitor the "virtual
footprints" they leave behind. With the logging and graphing we provide you will be
able to design your site to more accommodate your visitors and point traffic in the right
direction. We use a website statistics program called Statistics Server which will
keep key statistics on your website. This comprehensive statistics program keeps
information pertaining to your website, including your volume by month, week, day, and
even hour. The program even keeps track of the places that have linked to your
website and other important information.
Web space
Webspace is the amount of disk storage space you are allowed on the server. Do not confuse
web space with bandwidth. Web space
is the the amount of storage space for your files
where bandwidth refers to the amount of data transferred from your account to people
requesting those files. Hawk Internet allows you to have 25 Megabytes of space for each
account. This web space is used for files needed for your website and include HTML files
(.html, .htm, .asp, .cfm), images (.gif, .jpg), executables and compressed files (.exe,
.tar, .zip) and other files (.txt). 25 Megabytes of web space
is quite a lot of space and
should be sufficient for all of your files. Additional space can be made available
if needed at an additional charge.
